Learn Portuguese in the moments between.

Vozla teaches the Portuguese of Lisbon and Porto — not Rio. Eight words a day arrive on your lock screen during the hours you choose. Tap, hear, learn. Then practise with a real speaker across the city.

— 01
Words come to you.
Six to twelve Portuguese words appear on your lock screen during the hours you pick. Closed loop, no screen time required.
— 02
European, not Brazilian.
Every word recorded in Lisbon by native voice actors. CEFR A1 corpus. No shrugging when the waiter speaks back to you.
— 03
Speak with neighbours.
Find native speakers within a kilometre of your flat. Trade an hour of Portuguese for an hour of English over coffee.
How it works · one word

Thirty seconds. One loop.

Every Vozla word is one loop: a notification, a listen, a short quiz, a tile. The whole thing fits between a tram and a coffee. Repeated six to twelve times a day, only during the hours you choose.

Notification · 0 s
A word arrives.
During your chosen hours, a single Portuguese word lands on your lock screen. Tap it — or swipe it away and we will bring it back tomorrow.
02
Card · ~10 s
You hear it spoken.
A Lisbon voice actor pronounces the word, slow then natural. You see the English gloss, an example sentence, and any PT-PT note that matters.
03
Quiz · ~25 s
You spell it back.
A three-question anagram drill. Letter tiles, audio prompt, no typing. You can fail twice — we surface the answer rather than wasting your day.
04
Tile · ~30 s
A tile lands on your wall.
An azulejo tile flips into place. A hundred tiles is enough to navigate Lisbon. No streaks, no leagues, no nag — just the wall, filling in.

Why EU Portuguese

Seventy per cent of the internet teaches the wrong Portuguese.

If you live in Lisbon and study with mainstream apps, you are learning to be misunderstood in two languages. Different vocabulary, different conjugations, very different sound. Vozla's corpus is CEFR A1, cross-referenced with the syllabus Portuguese-language schools use, and ends with Lisbon-recorded audio.

"I spent eight months on Duolingo before moving to Porto and arrived speaking like a tourist from Rio. Vozla undid that in a fortnight."

Progress · not streaks

One hundred tiles, one wall.

Every word you finish earns an azulejo tile. The full hundred is enough to survive a Tuesday in Lisbon — order coffee, ask directions, navigate the AIMA office, make small talk with a stranger. No streaks. No guilt notifications. Just the wall, filling in.

Common questions

Six honest answers.

Anything else? Write to saroarkhandoker@yahoo.com. I read everything.

Is it really just European Portuguese? +
Yes — every word in the corpus is checked against the CEFR A1 syllabus used by Portuguese-language schools, and every audio file is recorded in Lisbon by native voice actors. Brazilian Portuguese will eventually ship as a separate, clearly-marked product. We do not mix the two.
Will Vozla work without notifications? +
You can use it entirely as a screen-time app — open it whenever, run quizzes, fill the wall. But the magic is the notifications: that is where the "moments between" framing comes from. We strongly recommend turning them on after the first week.
How much does it cost? +
Free for the first six months. After that, pricing terms TBD — but the first 100 words will stay free forever. No free trial; we do not want to nudge you into a billing surprise.
Is there an Android version? +
Not yet. iOS 17+ only at launch. An Android build is planned for early 2027, once we have learned what works on iOS.
What happens to my data? +
Account deletion is two taps in Settings. Everything is wiped within 24 hours. We never sell data, we never use it to train external models.
Who makes Vozla? +
Saroar Khandoker, an indie iOS developer based in Portugal, trading as "Vozla by Alif". Audio is recorded in Lisbon by native voice actors — no AI voices.
